I'll be working for STAR Physical Therapy in Lawrenceburg, TN, which is southwest of Columbia, and about halfway in between Nashville, TN and Florence, AL. My plans are to live at home with my parents for a while (I'm thinking a year, tops) and save up to buy a place in the Columbia area. It's a 40 minute commute from Florence and about 30 minutes from Columbia. Having lived in Cool Springs for the last 6 years and commuting 30-45 minutes each day to Lipscomb or Belmont, it really doesn't seem like a very long commute.
Here's the top 10 reasons why I chose to work for STAR:( in no particular order of importance)
1. It's an outpatient clinic
2. The company has clinics all over Nashville, if I decide later on that I would like to return
3. I will be one of 2 PTs in the Lawrenceburg clinic; the other PT being my boss and having 25+ years of experience (I can learn a lot from him)
4. There are no athletic trainers that work at this clinic, so I will get to treat some of the athletes that come in.
5. It's close enough to my parents house that I can live there and do some major saving for a home (if I don't have to replace my car before then)
6. The director (my boss) is a very Godly man, and has been a deacon of his church for 22 years. STAR also seems to be a very God-centered organization with a focus on service over profit. However, they still make a profit and are growing all over TN.
7. STAR encourages its employees to take opportunities to go on mission trips to other countries.
8. I will be able to get a TN License to practice PT and not have to worry about the costs of transferring my license to another state if I choose to go back to Nashville years later.
9. It's a lot cheaper to live in Lawrenceburg, and even Columbia than to live in Nashville.
10. It's not too far to drive in to Nashville for a weekend, or even one night for a Vandy game.
Okay, so maybe that last reason is the most important. I'm very thankful that I was given the job offer with STAR and am excited about working there. Now I just have to pass the Board Exam to get the PT salary that I've been offered. Currently, I'm waiting to hear from the State Board of PT to tell me that I can schedule for the exam. It's quite an arduous process to get all the paperwork and fees in on time and still wait 6-8 weeks before I can take the Boards. I started the process back in May and have finally gotten all of the paperwork in! The last thing was my Belmont transcript which wasn't ready until I graduated. I'm studying about 3-4 hours a day and hating every minute of it! I thought that graduating from school was my biggest accomplishment, but passing the Board Exam will be the biggest accomplishment in my career.
My moving day is this Saturday, and I've been doing a lot of packing. It's amazing how much stuff has accumulated at 402 over the last 6 years. I'm pretty sure that I found at least one item that belonged to each of my roommates that have lived here. Sorry roomies, I don't know what belongs to who so a lot of it is going to the "donate pile"
All the ladies of 402 will miss the Pigg Party Palace, and I'll have you know that it's being put into good hands. 402 will not be mistreated after I leave, but will only be made better (for a possible resale in the future). Cool Springs is about to grow by leaps and bounds when the Nissan Headquarters show up. It's already grown so much over the last 6 years, and I'm kind of glad to be getting out before it explodes with thousands of new residents (ok, maybe that was an exaggeration on my part.) I'll miss you, 402, but I'll always have my memories of you to keep me warm at night...
I'm off to Florence...
