Week Three in Atlanta

Each week I enjoy my clinical a little bit more. I am getting to see more of my own patients that I evaluated, and am getting to know them really well. I have a few funny stories to share...

One of my kids is a 10 year old who had his knee scoped along with a lateral meniscus repair. He's not one of the ones I evaluated, but he started PT the week before I got here. Well, he's a handful!!! Very apprehensive to pain (and therefore EVERY exercise hurts his knee), and he needs at least one PT working with him at all times. Needless to say, no other patients are scheduled to come in when he is here. This week, he decided to give me a nickname. He also nicknamed my CI. Seeing as I am only 5'2, he decided to call me "Midget". He also noticed that my CI has a lot of hair on his arms, and he decided to call him "monkey boy". So, now Monkey Boy and Midget are treating him. It sounds like a circus act to me...

On Thursday, a 7 year old kid that I was helping treat complimented me... I was throwing small plastic balls to him while he was balancing on one foot. The purpose of this activity is for him to catch the balls while still standing on one foot. He instead likes to dodge the balls. Well, I am trying not to throw them at his head nor am I trying to throw them very hard. He decides to tell me, "You may be sexy, but you can't throw." This is a 7 year old!!! I couldn't help but laugh...

Finally, on Friday a lady who works in the marketing dept. tries to get my CI to pose for pictures in the upcoming newsletter for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. This issue is supposedly focusing on PT at CHOA. My CI tells her that he cannot leave me alone to treat patients, but that I can be in the pictures while he treats the patients. Even though she is informed that I am NOT an employee of CHOA, only a student, she still talks me into getting my picture taken. I reluctantly go, thinking that this will only take a couple of minutes. Little did I know that I was to experience my first modeling gig! I end up having a two-hour photo session with a 10 year old little girl. There was a professional photographer and everything! I was not too pleased. I was also informed during the middle of this that the newsletter would be sent to over 5,000 people! It comes out in March and one will be mailed to my address in Nashville. My CI made fun of me for it, but he was just glad that he didn't have to do it...

That's all that is going on with me. I'll be sure and keep you updated on my new modeling career. TEEN magazine, here I come (since I look 16!)

Wow, my little sister is going to be all famous and stuff. I think I can speak for the rest of the family when I say we knew it was only a matter of time. We've always known she would hit the big time one day and be famous (or was that in-famous)Ha ha ha ha! Thanks for keeping us updated, Dinsers.
