I've finally found something that I don't need to eat while breastfeeding: Paula Dean's barbecue meatloaf! I'm really sad because I love this recipe, which is saying a lot since I've always HATED meatloaf. On Thursday night, I decided to make it for dinner, and I ate a HUGE helping of it. Here's what happened afterwards...
I usually put Will to bed after his 9:30ish feeding. For the 3 previous nights, he was able to sleep until around 5:30 the next morning. On Thursday night, he woke up crying at 11:45. I gave him his pacifier and he went back to sleep. At 2:00 am, I heard him crying again. I thought "maybe he's hungry again" and I went to his room to feed him. When I entered the room, I saw him lift up his hind end in the air and make a VERY LOUD sound of flatulence... When he finished, he looked at me and grinned. I couldn't help but laugh. I fed him and put him back to bed wide awake, but he fell asleep in just a few minutes.
At 4:00, he woke up crying AGAIN! This time I could hear the emitting gases over the monitor. We are fortunate to have a video monitor (which I HIGHLY recommend for those mommies who have babies that like to grunt in their sleep.) I was also able to SEE the acrobatic moves that were involved in Will's attempts to rid his tummy of the gases. Hilarious!
Anyway, I decided that I would just get Will out of his bed and lie down on the couch with him. He fell asleep on my tummy (while lying on his tummy, too) and I didn't get much sleep from 4-5:30 due to the sounds erupting from my baby boy's hind end. Needless to say, Will and I were both pretty exhausted on Friday morning when Alan came to relieve me at 5:30.
Never again will I eat barbecue meatloaf until Will is weaned!
