This was our last day in Comayagua and the PT crew went to a rehabilitation facility to have a PT clinic for about three to four hours. We were supposed to do this on our second day in Honduras, but it was cancelled due to the delayed arrival...
When we arrived at the rehab facility, we were given a tour that included meeting some of the current and former patients who learned trades there. The women learned to sew or weave baskets, etc and the men were making school desks or DME (rehab equipment such as walkers or canes). When we arrived in the PT gym, I was surprised to see that it was furnished with a treadmill, bike, parallel bars, and a couple of tables. There was even an ultrasound machine. We were split into 2 groups and spent the next 3 hours evaluating patients and giving them exercises, teaching them to use an assistive device, etc. Although the gym was well equipped with exercise equipment, the little things that we PTs take for granted was not there, such as theraband or even a reflex hammer.
That afternoon, we rode the buses up to the mission house in Tegucigalpa. It is located on top of one of the mountains and has the most beautiful view! I've attached some pictures from day 3.
