Honduras - Day 2 continued...
As I mentioned in the previous post, the PT crew missed the original flight to Honduras through TACA airlines because they overbooked the flight. We had to be at the airport the following morning at 3 a.m. and when we got there, the line to check your luggage was REALLY LONG! We didn't think that we needed to be in the line because we had been given our boarding passes the day before, but one of the TACA employees told us that we needed to get in the line anyway. I don't think he understood English very well because we really didn't need to be in the line. The only beneficial thing to standing and waiting for an hour was that we were told to call American Airlines to make sure that our luggage made it to Honduras. When we called to find out about the luggage, we were told that there was no way for AA to know if our luggage was in honduras because TACA was in charge of that. So, we were just hoping that our luggage would be waiting for us there!
We board the plane at 5:30 and the flight(s) begin. Our boarding passes said that we would be stopping in San Salvador, El Salvador. However, when we landed, the flight attendant on the intercom said something in Spanish and when she translated to English all I could hear was Nicaragua. Even the English is too fast for me to comprehend! Briefly, we were scared because we thought we were booked on the wrong flight. But we stayed on the plane and asked one of the flight attendants about our final destination - which was Honduras. So we made it there with an included tour of some of central america - Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras.
The luggage was there, but in Honduras, all luggage is searched by hand. When I opened my suitcase at the hotel, I was missing my laundry bag and toilet paper. I don't know how valuable those items are in Honduras!
The first day there was spent helping prepare lunches for the children at the VBS in Comyagua's church of christ, eat dinner at the hotel, and have a devo that night.
What I learned the first day:
You can't flush toilet paper because the pipes are too small
You can't drink the tap water nor can you even brush your teeth with the water.
I'll soon attach a couple of pictures from the first 2 days. That will be the next post.
