I know it's been a while since I last posted anything on my blog. Sorry...
I'm currently on my last clinical rotation for PT school at Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehab Hospital, and I'm loving it! It started out a little rough only because I had to once again learn a new system of documentation, charging, evaluating patients, scheduling, etc. Also, this is an inpatient rehab setting and a physically demanding clinical that involves a lot of somewhat difficult transfers. For example, I previously had a large female patient that was non weightbearing in her left leg/left arm and had severe arthritis in her right leg. She was basically dependent on me to transfer (or rather, lift) her to get out of her bed to her wheelchair. I think I've developed some muscles over the last 6 weeks! What I like about this rotation is that I am promarily treating patients that have traumatic brain injuries (TBI). What I've learned in school about this specific patient population is very true! A head injury can completely change someone's personality. The "inappropriate" actions are humerous and I've been called "sexy" on more than one occasion by some of my patients. You just never know what to expect! I really like seeing the progression of healing in this patient population, and in some cases how rapid the brain can heal itself.
Now that I'm almost finished with my last clinical, I am in the process of getting ready to take the boards, look for a job, and prepare for graduation. So much to do... And I leave for my mission trip to Honduras in 3 weeks! I'm excited about finally getting a paycheck and entering the "real world", but I am also extremely overwhelmed. I'm learning to put all my worries in God's hands, but it's so hard. Too many unknowns right now, but soon I'll have those prayers answered. I just need to be patient and pray that my efforts/decisions about my future profession are in line with what God wills for me.
Lastly, I have been trying to spend quality time with my nephew, Camden. Maybe I've spent a little too much time with him recently because he decided to give me a 24 hour stomach bug earlier this week. I really don't mind.. He can give me any germs he wants! It won't keep me from hanging out with my "little buddy." I'm also posting a couple of pictures of him from this afternoon.
